Water is always surrounding the plant roots in a hydroponic setup. Because water and nutrients are always present, it allows plants to grow faster and stronger. Plants can be harvested early which can result in more plants being planted per season. Another advantage of having water always present is that it minimizes the space needed to garden. The most important factor in any type of gardening is having enough nutrients available. In soil based gardens, there is never sufficient nutrient, which is why fertilizers are used in every soil garden. Hydroponic gardens operate a little differently; they use a specialized type of fertilizer which is customized to be efficient in hydroponics. Using hydroponic fertilizers are more difficult to use compared to soil fertilizers. Be sure to read the instructions carefully, the hydroponic fertilizers usually require a certain Ph and dilution level.
