Water is always surrounding the plant roots in a hydroponic setup. Because water and nutrients are always present, it allows plants to grow faster and stronger. Plant roots no longer have to spread out to search for nutrients as it always in reach. Since the roots do not have to stretch outwards, the nutrients which should be allocated to that task can be used in growing. Simple routine clean ups will prevent any problems from rising in the future. In any type of gardening, any pests which exist in the growing environment do nothing but leech nutrients from plants.
