Water is always surrounding the plant roots in a hydroponic setup. Because water and nutrients are always present, it allows plants to grow faster and stronger. Plants can be harvested early which can result in more plants being planted per season. Another advantage of having water always present is that it minimizes the space needed to garden. Since the roots do not have to stretch outwards, the nutrients which should be allocated to that task can be used in growing. When growing plants with a hydroponic setup, maintaining the system is very important. Proper maintenance will ensure that high yields and nutrition high foods will remain constant. Simple routine clean ups will prevent any problems from rising in the future. In any type of gardening, any pests which exist in the growing environment do nothing but leech nutrients from plants. Following this concept, remove any dead and dying leaves from plants.

Before introducing a plant in the previous diseased area, clean up any residue left behind. Diseased Plants should be removed and its area should be cleaned thoroughly with a bleach solution. Before changing any water in the tank, wash it out with a cleaning solution. Remove any residue, and make sure areas which hosted a diseased plant are cleaned properly.
